Energy Assistance (LIHEAP)
Everyone deserves a warm home when cold weather settles into Georgia. It’s not always easy; especially for homebound seniors on fixed incomes. We understand and want to help.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program, which is commonly called LIHEAP, assists eligible, low-income residents with heating and cooling costs. The Georgia Department of Human Services contracts with NGCA, Inc. to administer the program and applications are still being accepted for 2018. LIHEAP benefits are open to U.S. citizens or aliens admitted to the U.S. for lawful, permanent residence.

To apply, bring your most recent heating bill, most recent electric bill, proof of household income, proof of a valid Social Security number, driver’s license or valid photo I.D. and/or documentation proving alien status to your county NGAC, Inc. Community Service Center. For a list of documentation needed, please see the list below.

Assistance is provided one time per year and is based on the applicant’s annual household income before taxes. However, tax refunds are not considered income and therefore play no role when applying for LIHEAP.

LIHEAP checks are issued directly to the energy provider and are not given to the applicant. Also, no check can be issued until NGCA, Inc. receives LIHEAP funding from the State. Assistance is provided on a “first come, first served” basis, as long as the funding lasts.

Any low-income individual or family living in one of the 10 counties which NGCA, Inc. serves should contact their local Community Service Center to complete an application.
